Beth Sholom Congregation is a thriving modern Orthodox synagogue in the Washington, DC suburb of Potomac, Maryland. We are located within an Eruv and are proud of our beautiful facility which is available to rent for life cycle events as well as organizational functions. The synagogue also houses a fabulous Early Childhood Center, which also includes a kindergarten program.
Our shul, founded in 1908, serves Jews along a wide spectrum of generations, observance and backgrounds. In light of our proximity to the Washington, DC area, our community attracts Jewish families from all over the world, including a growing number from Spanish-speaking countries and Western Europe. With over 400 families, Beth Sholom is a dynamic congregation and is home to many minyanim every Shabbat (including a traditional Sephardic service and a teen minyan). Our experienced Youth Director, parents, and teens lead weekly youth activities for children under the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah including an exciting Shabbat Torah Tots program for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. For our pre-teens and teens, we have youth groups.
We have daily minyanim. There are adult education classes tailored to both new and experienced learners, offered in both Hebrew and English, throughout the week and on Shabbat. Throughout the year, we feature Shabbatonim with renowned speakers from around the world. Our woman’s group meets regularly and on Purim and Simchat Torah.
The Beth Sholom community is truly a family and integral to our shul are our strong chesed and social action committees. We take care of our members in need, whether it is providing meals when a baby is born or during shiva. We are committed to tikkun olam, and together we participate in volunteer activities locally. We support Israel, and Beth Sholom provides members with opportunities to hear talks on a variety of topics from Israeli speakers and from members who hold senior level leadership positions in both government and national Jewish organizations.
