Accessibility Statement

Shmoogle is committed to making www.shmoogle.com accessible to people of all abilities, including those who use assistive technologies. We strive to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the Level AA standard.

1. Our Commitment

We believe a Jewish community directory should be usable by every member of the community. We design and build Shmoogle with accessibility in mind and continually review the site to identify and fix barriers.

2. Conformance Status

Shmoogle aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Conformance means the content fully meets the criteria; we are working toward full conformance and acknowledge that some areas of the site may not yet meet every guideline.

3. Measures We Take

  • Semantic HTML for headings, landmarks, and forms
  • Alternative text on meaningful images
  • Keyboard navigation for interactive elements
  • Sufficient color contrast for body text
  • Accessible labels on form inputs and buttons
  • Automated accessibility linting in our development workflow

4. Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known areas we are actively improving:

  • Some user-submitted images may lack descriptive alternative text
  • Older listings may use formatting that does not meet current standards
  • Embedded third-party content (maps, analytics) is governed by the accessibility of those providers

6. Assessment Approach

We assess accessibility through a combination of automated testing (Lighthouse, axe, eslint-plugin-jsx-a11y) and manual review. We do not currently have a third-party certification.
